NJIT welcomes delegation from City University of Macau

On May 11, Mr. Liu Jun, president of City University of Macau, Mr. Gu Yu, president of Bethune Medical Foundation of Canada, Mr. Zhang Wuhua, director of the External Liaison Committee of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of China Zhi Gong Party, Mr. Meng Pengjiu, vice chair of Jiangsu Provincial Culture Committee of the Democratic Revolution visited NJIT. NJIT Deputy Chair of University Council and President Mr. Shi Jinfei, Deputy Chair of University Council Mr. Pu Lijie warmly welcomed the guests and held a cordial talk. Two parities deeply discussed various topics including teaching and education, curriculum program, industry-university-research cooperation, and negotiated the possibility of establishing a cooperation framework between two universities. Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the Dean of the School of Art and Design attended the meeting.

After extending a warm welcome to the delegation represented by President Liu Jun, President Shi Jinfei provided an overview of the history, educational characteristics and global exchanges of NJIT. As he mentioned, facing the industrial demands, NJIT has carried out talent training and scientific and technological innovation, striving to become the pioneer of national applied engineering universities in recent years. As one of the most renowned universities in Macao, City University of Macau has played a significant role in the joint scientific research and talent cultivation in both mainland China and Macao. Mr. Shi Jinfei hoped that taking this visit as an opportunity, the two universities could form a sustainable partnership, carry out mutually beneficial programs by giving full play to the respective strengths in the fields of facilities, faculty and disciplines. The aim is to facilitate win-win collaboration and to promote the joint development of Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance.

President Liu Jun expressed sincere thanks to the warm reception, and introduced CityU’s vigorous academic exploration in new humanities and social sciences and interdisciplinary disciplines. As he expressed, Macao acts as a bridge between the mainland China and the world, and the Greater Bay Area's educational goal of “emphasizing the industry-university-research collaboration, and cultivating application-oriented talents” also coincides with CityU’s mission. President Liu believed that adhering to the motto of “Macao characteristics, Chinese spirit and global vision”, CityU is striving to provide much diversified and abundant learning experience and opportunities for students and teachers in mainland China by integrating Chinese and Western educational style, investigating multilingual teaching strengths in a confident Chinese narrative.

During the meeting, the two universities were committed to expanding their collaboration on fostering faculty professionals, postgraduate and doctoral candidate education, internship and other programs in areas of art and design, economic management, big data science and other disciplines.

Accompanied by Mr. Zhang Yangfei, member of the Standing Committee of University Council and Vice President of NJIT, the delegation visited the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the campus-based Tianyin Dreamworks Incubation Studio and the School of Art and Design.
